Frequent startup issues with MacBook Pro

Most days it takes several tries to startup my MacBook Pro. it will chime and either have a grey screen or black screen, after numerous shutdowns and startups it will eventual boot up. This does not happen all the time. I did take it into the Genius Bar but that particular day it started up just fine. There are times when it will startup without problems and other days it just won't. Any suggestions on what else I can do. I did try all the fixes recommended but that didn't solve the issue.

This problem could be anything from an unintentional malware installation to a hardware bottleneck or failure. Some things are fairly easy to fix.
