Emoji Keyboard size is large after updating to iOS 18.1

like the title suggests, the emoji keyboard size after updating to 18.1 is waaay too big. It's really frustrating that I can't find a way to change it. Anyone had any luck solving this issue?

I got a 16 2 days ago, and after HOURS of getting all my apps logged in (thanks apple for only remembering half of my log ins - I feel this is ios18 specific as my last phone upgrade was easy) but I do not have the diagonal emoji gaps. I've seen the 16 take an hour or so to adjust, so it may be worth doing a force restart to see if that helps?

Gee, thank you for that INSIGHTFUL response. If you look through the rest of the comments on this thread, you’ll see I’m not the only one complaining to Apple and not just out loud? Miss me with that attitude. Thanks <3

You seemed to have missed the whole point of the post you replied to. Your post as well as the others is not complaining to Apple on this website. The answer has been given many times and some have missed the reading part of this thread and simply went straight to the posting.

This is simply a support site that is made up of other users and the feedback link that has been provided is the way to complain to Apple. The question was asked and the answer was given, which is the purpose of the site here, it is not a Social Media site. No need to be offended, it is just a matter of directing a question to the most appropriate solution.

Wow. I should hope everyone gets on and asks Apple for the option to change it, in everyone’s best interest. Having one or the other just makes one half of their users upset. I can see how it would be useful but it’s unusable for me. I hope they add the option to change it back soon. Very hypocritical to only listen to some of their users and not the rest.

Please validate yoru likely erroneous assumption that HALF of Apple's users are upset about the change in Emoji size. There are millions upon millions upon millions upon millions of iPhone's being used in the world. Aside from a statistically insignificant number of people here complaining about this in comparison to the many millions of users who seeming aren't upset as they're certainly not here complaining, your assertion simply can't be validated.

But yes, you should use the feedback link to let Apple know your thoughts. It will take far more people than who have managed to find it objectionable enough to show up here on this, the worlds most widely used forum for all things Apple to get Apple to rethink this. But give it your best shot.

I mean, I didn’t mean literally one half of their users. Just never personally seen anyone ask for larger emojis. Crossing my fingers that Apple adds the option at the very least! Hopefully I’ll get used to the new size in the meantime lol.

I'm sure unlike me, you haven't been on this forum for like the last 15 years every day. Since the dawn of Emoji's people have complained they were too small.

I'm sure you'll adjust. One thing in life we can count on is change and most of us manage to not only adjust to change, but eventually even appreciate change.

I also find it interesting how many people are oblivious to change. Just about everyone in my office is an iPhone user. As an experiment, I asked everyone what they thought of the larger size Emoji's on their iPhone. Most hadn't even realized they were larger. And not one them was bothered either way. A few commented they really like it because with them being smaller, they were often tapping the wrong Emoji.

Take care and Happy Holidays!

Just to echo what others are saying, I just did this update this morning and I wish I hadn’t. The new emoji size is atrocious and I hate it. I foresee Apple looking at whatever emoji use data they have in a couple months and start thinking “hmm why are so many people just not using emojis anymore?” BECAUSE YOU MADE IT AWFUL. pls revert or at least give us the option to change it. I’m sure it would be a fantastic accessibility OPTION.

Apple won't see your post here and I would not count on them monitoring anyones usage data. They rely simply on users providing feedback like they did previously when they complained that the emoji's were too small. Having an option to change the size is not a bad idea that may make everyone happy, but they will never know if no one gives them that feedback using the link that has been posted.

not in need to have them large! How can I make them small again!?

You can't resize them to the size they were before iOS 18. For years, people complained Emoji's were too small. Apple listened and made them larger. I'm not sure why it's an issue for some that the size changed. I find it easier to find the right emoji now that they are bigger. But if this is really bothering you, you can let Apple know your thoughts here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Hmm, that appears to be the same feedback link that was recommended when users complained that the emojis were too small and wanted them larger. Apparently it does work!

Indeed it does work. And I have used it to THANK Apple for finally making the emoji's large enough to actually see what they are!

Dec 4, 2024 10:53 AM in response to IF_IT_ISNT_BROKE_DONT_FIX_IT

I'm not sure what's puzzling about a feature, which people have asked for, for years. Apple does listen, when enough people ask for something and over the years, many many many people, including me asked for the emoji's to be larger. So Apple listened and made them bigger.

What I find puzzling is how many people get upset over change. They're larger. That's all they are. They're easier to see now. They didn't take any emoji's away. They didn't change how emoji's work. They simply made them larger, which for me is a really great things.

Feel free to do what I did long ago, when I asked for larger emoji's and what I have done recently, when I THANKED Apple for making them larger - FINALLY and provide feedback to Apple here, where it will be read by Apple --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Yup. Leave it to Apple to fix **** that isn’t broken. This is going to be my last iPhone. They fix things with no option to switch it back. Ridiculous.

If you think Apple will see your comment here, they won't. It doesn't really matter to anyone here on this user to user only forum, if you buy something else. In fact, you should buy whatever you think best meets your needs. But if you think Samsung or Google or any other manufacturer doesn't change things, think again. Change is the one constant in life, we can all count on. Good luck with whatever device you choose next, though.

Of course, you can tell Apple what you think by providing feedback to them here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Keep in mind, the emoji's were made larger after years of people complaining they were too small (myself included), so the feedback link does work.

Agreed, I don’t like the huge screen vibes, I feel like an elderly person who can’t see. Apple please don’t do weird changes that aren’t needed. Thank you

It has been a request for a long time by users to make the emoji's bigger. You are welcome to use the same feedback link that they did to let Apple know how you feel.

I can’t use these stupid enormous emojis anymore. Why in the world would they think anyone would want to send an emoji the size of Mt Everest ? All of my family and friends are also very frustrated. So many issues with the new update besides the ridiculously huge dumb emojis.

I'm not sure how the size makes it unusable, but you are more than welcome to provide feedback to Apple here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Keep in mind for years, people have complained the emoji's were too small. I felt they were too small and used the feedback link I just provided to you, to let Apple know my thoughts. So the feedback link does work, if enough people complain.
