Notes from my iPhone disappeared post accepting new iCloud Terms and Condition.

Settings > notes > default account > on my iPhone has fixed it. Thank you for the suggestions.

I had originally posted about my notes disappearing after update, a rep tried all avenues w/ me over the phone, eventually had me restore my phone to a backup. That worked. But then, about a week later, my iPhone was wanting me to enter password for an email address, it wouldn't let me not' do it/skip it. Screen kept flashing to different things and taking me to enter my password. After I did enter the email password on google that iPhone was making me do, then, once again, my notes were all removed/messed up. There is something' ( I'm not sure what) related to how email addresss are tied' to notes. However, I don't really understand the connection or why' notes are linked to some email address. I'm guessing I'll have to restore my phone again, however, the issue is that I might not have the option to restore it to a date from before the new update, which will my notes gone forever. Horrible update in my opinion. I say this because I rely heavily on notes I have.

I found a fix. I called Apple tech support and they walked me through it and I got all my notes back. No long wait time either.

The notification came up for me on the 6th of November. The notes suddenly came back after two times disappearing and I knew it had to have been the reason why this happened (along with storage capacity, low power mode and not having the updated iOS’ which I now do so I had to delete data) so I am glad I came across this thread via an internet search. Older notes kept on my previous device pulled up but unfortunately two of my most used notes didn’t sync to the latest version. I used these just before I agreed to the notification. A lot of information is gone. I tried a few things, even called Apple the day it happened and went into the store yesterday. A guy at the store said give it about a week and it could come back to the latest version as it may be stuck in the cloud finding it’s way back to me. I have edited the two notes since but stopped. I hope it doesn’t interfere with the chance of coming back to the latest versions I had. One was dated March 2023 and the other August 2024. Bizzare how this occured when they were regularly saved. He said this occurs to people. But two attendants there didn’t even hear about the notification issue yet and am sure they will in time. Very upsetting and disappointing. I’m not going to hold my breath on it coming back but I can only rebuild on the information I have. I am scared to try deleting the app and tried everything else that I came across. If anyone could please assist that would be greatly appreciated.

That’s the button I toggled on and off to get iCloud to start up and sync notes again. If you’re in the Manage Storage menu, you’ll see that it will delete the notes from iCloud entirely as that is referring to your iCloud storage as opposed to device syncing so stay away from

that menu!

You will only get the notes synced to your device that are currently stored in iCloud. While the update stopped syncing the notes for many, they were able to sync them again to show up on the device. I have not seen any reports where the notes were removed from the iCloud.com website after the update. That may be a different issue altogether and not related to what the users have found on this post.

I totally agree, this shouldn’t have happened! Why they tied my notes to my email accounts is beyond me! I was able to re-sync my notes from the cloud based on the support group instructions! A lot of folks did not get their notes back!!! Unacceptable because of terms and software updates!

I had to do a complete erase of phone and restore from backup to get mine back. Extremely frustrating!!!! Notes are my bible to everything.

update - powered off and on after the two suggested steps. got my notes back on iPh!

tried this fix also, and still no go.

That’s what I did as it’s only the iCloud notes that it says will be deleted (which are already missing!)

The notes should still be stored in your iCloud so when you switch it back on the Notes App sorts itself out and downloads the missing notes again.

This worked for me and my partner so I hope it works for you 👍

In addition, I would make a habit of regularly backing up notes. calendars, etc to any old iPhones or other Apple devices that you have, then disabling Internet on said device(s) for as long as you don't need to use them.

Crisis averted, thank you! To anyone not having luck with this, try it with your phone plugged in and connected to wifi.

May seem obvious to most people, but it had slipped my mind and the sync wasn’t happening for me initially.
