Failed to Share Custom Format Project - Error Code Guide?

TROUBLESHOOTING SHARING FROM FCPX 10.8.1

I am having sharing issues. (It's not that I don't want to share). I am trying to share a short file of 9-minutes, however it is a complex 8K project with a custom frame size with 2 screen areas imbedded in a single custom frame format as well as multi-image sequences and a variety of media.

I have had some success with export including some output at full final resolution, however more often than not of late, it fails to share even at 4K. Unfortunately, the error numbers and messages and apparent fail points vary from fail to fail. I have also had red "Missing Plugins"populate the project at some points although these seem to come and go without my being able to find an explanation. I don’t know that I am missing a plugin.

Details. MacBook Pro M1 Max; 32GB memory running OS X 14 and just now, 15.1. FCPX 10.8.1. The main high-resolution camera media is 8192x3420 Canon Cinema RAW Light at 59.94fps. The custom frame size for the project is: 7748 x 3569. There is masking and countermasking within the frame to separate the scenes/clips for two different screens.

It could of course be that the processor is not up to the demands of the project complexity, which includes retiming from 59.94 to 60fps.

I have tried simplifying some compound clip constructions, eliminating any Optical Flow requirements (frame rate changes are all now using good frame blending).

HOWEVER, WHAT WOULD HELP ME WOULD BE TO UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE ERROR MESSAGES, OR BE ABLE TO LOOK THEM UP.

I am trying to assess whether a hardware upgrade will help or whether the project needs to be disassembled into smaller chunks (shorter timeline segments, but also sliced down from its stacked double screen compound frame format into respective screens. All of these changes involve some considerable work and complexity.

Thank you for any assistance or insights you can provide.

The missing plug-in issue is probably what is at stake. I don't have any experience with the Canon software, though.

I see in the report that you have had several crashes of video applications, not just with FCP.

AND... you have Chrome and its evil minions, the "keystone" processes.

These are known to run in the background, and hog the system videotoolbox, causing video applications to stall or fail completely.

A commom sympton of their evildoing is the spike in CPU use by some processes like VTDecoderXPCService

and sure enough that shows in the report.

I strongly recommend that you remove Chrome and its keystone things.

See https://chromeisbad.com for a more detailed explanation and for how to remove them.

The Flexo errors involve the main private framework used by FCP. Error 10004 is invalid handle and error 10110 is Invalid ProcID. Both of those are likely part of a failure cascade caused by some kind of concurrency or race condition problem, maybe caused by the Canon plugin. They might be caused by an older version of the Canon RAW plugin.

To examine the current version of your Canon RAW plugin, first verify this file is present:

/Library/Application Support/ProApps/PlugIns/VendorSpecific/CanonRAW.bundle

If so use this terminal command:

plutil -p '/Library/Application Support/ProApps/PlugIns/VendorSpecific/CanonRAW.bundle/Contents/Info.plist'

If it is not version 2.7 or 2.7.0.8, then Google for "RAW Plugin for Final Cut Pro" AND "2.7.0", download that and install it.

Also, make sure you completely remove the Chrome and keystone items according to the previously-listed procedure.

Thank you. I have deleted preferences and all render files. I am attempting to share again, however the share has been stuck at 19% for several hours at this point ("transcoding segments"). I have appended a report.

I subsequently attempted a third export today following similar instructions provided by Tom Wolsky here: Rendering/Transcoding stuck on 16%-19% - Apple Community. (i.e. turning off background rendering and trying to render a 'master' file. (Previously I was attempting lower res exports on the possibly mistaken assumption that they might be faster). The export however seems to have hung at 19% again.

When I open the project in the timeline several clips indicate the red "Missing Plugin" warning. Do you have any advice on trying to solve this issue? I had thought that this might be related to the Canon plugin as these clips are all Canon Cinema RAW Light footage. (Not all the .CRM footage in the project indicates a missing plugin however.) I have not had an issue with this plugin previously. I downloaded a newer version of the Canon XF application and installed it (what a nightmare to find). This does not appear to have changed anything.

Hi Joema,

Thanks for the reply! QNAP not part of the mix. I have appended errors received. I have managed to get some exports to render but many have simply hanged at 0% or 19%.

Eliminating surround sound seemed to help. With surround sound, the exports hung at 0%.

Phone support from Apple noted that I was maxing out memory and needed to eliminate any other drains on memory to get this thing out. But I am not convinced that is THE main problem although it would certainly help speed rendering.

I have created a new project and copied the timeline to it; this may have helped (I succeeded in a 4K export). But it would still be very useful to actually understand what is actually going on.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Canon Cinema RAW plugin. I thought I had installed the latest. Thank you joema for the instructions on verification! I did not have the most recent version. I found the recent version on the Canon site 2.7.0.8, installed it and verified and restarted.

Chrome and keystone. While not an active Chrome user, I uninstalled Chrome and located and deleted Google, Chrome and Keystone elements per the instructions and restarted.

With the modifications above, I tried to export an 8K version, but it has not been successful. The share progresses reasonably rapidly to 19% (as many previous exports) then CPU and memory go idle and it remains at 19%. I am not sure I will ever get a "Share Failed" message--it just seems to stope at 19% 'transcoding...'.

As indicated previously, I have been able to export one 4K version successfully using Apple Devices 4K options.

This may be a side issue. Even though I previously switched rate conforms to "Good-frame blending" throughout the edit--diligently going through the index to check all clips and clips in compound clips etc., I still get the message during sharing, warning that elements using "optical flow" are incomplete. Is this an FCPX bug? (I have seen other posts about this). Is there a way to find if there are specific instances using "optical flow" that I might have missed somewhere? (I have tried searching the clips in the Index, but without any success. Though a nice addition, this seems a kind of hit and miss process for finding things; I haven't found anything I have looked for yet.)
