Maximum Capacity is at 98% in less than 2 months on iPhone 16 Pro

I’m very disappointed with the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery performance. After 48 days of moderate use, the maximum charge capacity has dropped to 98%, and I can’t even say there’s any improvement in battery life compared to my old iPhone 14 Pro, which had 84% Maximum Capacity after nearly two years of use. If this trend continues, it will reach 80% capacity in less than 14 months and approximately 310 charge cycles. It’s shameful!

Here are some specific details:

• I charge it using the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter, either with the original cable that came in the box or with the Apple MagSafe Charger.

• I don’t use Always On Display.

• As shown in the attached images, I use it for about 2 hours per day, under normal temperature and humidity conditions.

• I don’t use it for car navigation, social media, movies, games, or any other intensive apps.

• I use an Apple Clear Case with MagSafe.

So, what can I do to get this “amazing” phone to at least match the performance of my old iPhone 14 Pro?

if you have a moderate use then set your phone’s charge limit between 80%-90%. I got my phone in Dec’24 I have done that and as on today in Aug’25 (after 8 months of use) my battery’s max capacity is 99%.

The reason it works is, Li-ion batteries charge easily & fast upto 80%, after that each %further the battery is charged, the li-ion cells have to work much harder to charge themselves up. As a result your battery’s life declines faster.

Batteries, like people are individuals. No two people age exactly the same and batteries don’t age the same either. The exact usage, chemical makeup, storage conditions, exposure to heat and cold and about a dozen other factors mean that every battery ages differently. Battery aging is not a linear (straight line) and degrades at different rates as the chemicals in the battery age and other factors mentioned above. Apple expects your battery health to be at 80% after 24 months. If your battery health misses that expectation, contact Apple Support.

The issue is lithium ion batteries do not decline in a pure linear fashion. It’s entirely possible it’ll decline just 1% in the next 100 cycles.

Apple will run diagnostics and if nothing is showing as defective, I doubt they’ll do anything. The 4% decline is unusual, but I don’t believe is indicative of a defect. But in any event, diagnostics is the next step.

iPhone 16 pro, battery health 100% with 86 cycles in about 4 months and a half of use. Always charge to maximum 90% and try to charge before dropping 20% and almost always use a slow charger (5W) which can take about two hours to full charge yes but is much better in controlling temperature of the phone while charging and so preserves battery life significantly over time. Only use a fast charger (20W) when for example I have to go somewhere and my battery is low, then I just plug it for about half an hour on the fast charger and that’s more than enough to make my battery last when I’m outside. Some extra tips I use are, turning off unnecessary location services (both on apps and system services), using most of the time reduce white point which improves battery life by slightly dimming the screen, using notifications summary for most apps except messages or social media for example, turning off mail fetch and those battery drainers features on the default mail app as I use the Gmail app and finally turning off background app refresh for most apps except maybe those you use the most.

Remember that Apple always rounds down any "tenths" in the Maximum Capacity display to the nearest whole number.

For example.....98.9% will display as 98%, even though the battery is only one tenth below 99%.

So the battery display may have dropped from 100% to 98.9%, a drop of only 1.1%, but this will look as if the battery dropped 2% from 100% to 98%. Significant difference there.

It's just way too early at this point to try to estimate how long your battery might go.

At a cycle count of 200, chances are the battery will be at about 92%. At 375 cycles, the battery will in the 85% range.

If the battery is really defective, and drops below 80% in the first year, Apple will replace the battery at no charge.

This is not an answer to your original question.  I have noticed your use of your phone has an unusual Activity being used in one particular App.  The ‘’Home and Locked screen” App;  Has an extraordinary amount of use.

I use my IPhone 16 PMax for a few hour a day.  And my Locked Screen use is a few minutes.  Maybe an average of 4-5% per day.  Yours is over 2 hours use when the phone is locked.   I am not an expert.  But, you might have some settings that might be helpful to reduce this particular issue,  And possibly the amount of “Dynamic Island" features, Live Activities that are active when your phone is locked.

it's maybe because you charge your phone to 100% every time. i turned on optimized charging to 85% or 95%, avoiding charging to full battery to prevent battery capacity affection!!! i get that you're treating your new phone the same as your older phone, but if the battery is such an issue, you should request a replacement phone because technological devices could have their own defects. nothing's perfect

Several users.....including me.....have posted to this thread to say the your battery performance is normal. I made the mistake of assuming that the iPhone 15 and 16 batteries were similar to previous models, but have done some additional research, which I just posted a few minutes ago.

Your battery performance is not normal. My opinion.

The good news is that you should get a free replacement battery since it is nowhere close to meeting the claims by Apple. The bad news is that Apple will likely tell you that the Maximum Capacity has to be down to 80% before they will replace it.

There are multiple ways to charge a lithium battery. The are many factors that affect overall capacity of the battery.

Every night I charge my battery to 100% by enabling Optimized Charging to 80% and then letting it charge to 100% by the time I get up at about 5:30 AM. It charges to 80% by about 3:30 and then slow charges the last 20% so it’s at 100% and ready for a full day if need be.

I’ve done this for the last 6 years or so. My iPhones are usually between 97% and 100% at end of first year. My iPhone 16 Pro Max is at 100% and I got it the first day of availability in September.

Doesn't sound like it's dropping to drastically to be considered defective but that's still going down pretty quick. Do you turn off your background app refresh for apps you don't need updated unless you check them yourself? I'm at 122 cycles on my 16 pro max and still at 100% health I use a 45watt anker block and oem c to c cable. Maybe have Apple run a diag on it.

Your health will most assuredly decline though. And running the phone lower than 20% as your screenshot shows will age the battery faster than charging it to 100%.

Hola.

Maximum Capacity is at 98% in less than 2 months on iPhone 16 Pro
