Since changing card numbers, Apple Card doesn't work in Apple Pay

A few weeks ago, I had to change my Apple Card number because it was being charged from an unknown source. The main Apple Card numbers changed, and that main card number works fine. Ever since then, if I charge the card directly without using Apple Pay, it works fine.

BUT ... ever since that event, if I try to use the Apple Card via Apple Pay, the transaction is rejected. When I go into Card Information -> Additional Card Numbers, the Apple Pay numbers appear to be the same (or at least the last 4 digits are the same). So it looks like I still have the same Apple Pay card number that I did before the card numbers had to be changed.

There's another support case where an individual (Jeff Donald) said to remove the card from my wallet, reboot the phone, and then add previous card for my Apple Card ... and it should work.

I've done that twice. The card still doesn't work via Apple Pay.

What needs to be done to actually fix this? How do we force the Apple Card card-number for Apple Pay to change, since I'm betting that number has been invalidated by Goldman Sacks.
