Facebook app doesn’t work on new ipad

Install the Facebook Messenger App - and sign-in using your Facebook credentials.

After signing-in to Facebook Messenger, many report that their [previously rejected] credentials are accepted by the Facebook App.

Someone said that if you used your Facebook User Name as shown in your facebook profile instead of using your email to sign-in, it would work. I went to the iphone and looked up my facebook profile and found my "user Name" in the profile and used it in place of the email on the app sign-in page on the ipad, then entered my password and it worked great. Now I just bring up the app and facebook is there.

Not working for me. Each time I've tried to log into the Facebook app on my new iPad (10th Gen) using my email & password, I get the "Did you forget your password" msg. I've tried deleting and reinstalling both the app and the Messenger app. I've tried logging out of Messenger and logging back in. I've tried changing passwords. Nothing is working. As with others, I can access Facebook via Safari but I'd like to use the app. Meta's Login and Password section in their Help Center was not helpful. Any more suggestions?

Facebook is well known for its terrible customer service and constant bugs in their apps. It is going to take another update by Meta to resolve the issue completely other than the already provided workarounds. They are not going to see your post here, but I can post the Help Center link to Facebook. Getting a working number for support that will provide any assistance is next to impossible.

It finally works! I had initially tried what LotusPilot wrote, but had to log out and then log in a second time from FB messenger in order for it to work for the FB app. Thank you very much!

Well known issue with Facebook that needs resolved by Meta. In the meantime, follow the steps provided by LotusPilot for the workaround. Meta has a terrible track record with bugs in their apps especially on the iPad platform. It is obvious you are their bug tester when they have released 13 updates to the app in just over the last month.

I’m in the same situation. We purchased 2 iPad Pro 11” installed both Facebook App and Facebook Messenger. We signed into FB Messenger and can communicate with others, but still cannot log into the FB app. We can access FB through Safari on the same iPad Pro.

What else could be done?

Here is a workaround for Facebook's iPad app:

I just got a new iPad Pro with OS 18.1 and the Facebook app doesn't allow me to login. I can do it via Safari, so it is an app problem, not a problem with connectivity or the new iPad.

When I saw so many others having similar issues, I deleted the Facebook app and saved the Facebook bookmark to the home screen on my iPad. That works perfectly.

Have discovered, on my iPad, that if a phone number is associated with the FB apps, that IS the login id, no matter what you type in. The tablet does not need a SIM card. The apps are forcing a phone number.

If someone else out there on FB ever had your number as primary contact, and it pulls first on a search, it will seem like you can never log in.

Safari does just fine with FB, and full screen messenger.

Meta is not playing nice with Apple.

I followed LotusPilot's 11/8/24 instructions and it solved the problem for me in less than a minute. Sad that FB Help Center provides no information on this known problem. Thank you Apple Support Community!

I'm having same issue. i tried the Messenger fix and that worked.

but still cannot get to FB. I've changed password etc.

what is next step
