Wi-Fi icon is greyed out on my iPhone 7

i was using my iphone normally when suddenly the wifi connection was lost. i went into settings and the wifi icon wouldn't turn on anymore. when i pressed the wifi on/off button it turned green then immediately returned to grey.

To rule out a software issue, try to restore it to factory settings without using the latest backup:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings using a computer - Apple Support


In case this does not work, the problem is hardware related. There have been some iPhone 7 models where the Wi-Fi chip came loose on the motherboard over time, disabling Wi-Fi.
