Can I stream to two devices simultaneously with airplay off iPhone or iPad ?


want to stream to HomePod for sound and airplay projector for picture BUT without an Apple TV in the middle


projector has Apple TV app so want to avoid expense and wires of another tv device just to have sound from HP ?

When you cast video from IOS it will be sent as one to the receiving device, you can't split audio and video. If it is an audio only source then you will have the ability to send to multiple end points (but for speakers only). It is only when using the Apple TV box that you have the option to use airplay for output (and you can choose one or more speakers to send to).


With the Apple TV box, you also have the ability to set HomePod as a default speaker (if it is the bigger model it also supports surround sound + Atmos).


The only other wireless solution would be using a BT speaker (assuming the projector supported it).

I had mentioned using a Bluetooth speaker and you said you were going to try that, that would be your only option if you don’t want to use Apple TV.


To reiterate what I said before, using AirPlay to cast video from iPhone will be only to the projector, you can’t split the audio to send separately to another speaker. HomePod can only be set as a speaker output with Apple TV box.
