I recently upgraded from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to an iPhone 16 Pro Max and noticed that Apple Pay is no longer working using the right side button.
I checked the settings and found that “double-clicking the side button” in Wallet was enabled. I disabled it, restarted my phone, and then re-enabled it. However, this did not resolve the issue, and Apple Pay is still not working.

Issue sorted.
Open up the Wallet app and check if you don't need to re-verify the card/s added to your Apple Wallet.
