YouTube Auto-Playing Issue after upgrade to iOS 18.1

This is happening to me as well. Twice in the last 24 hours I've heard voice or sound coming out of my iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 18.1.1 and it only stops when I force quit YouTube, which may be 5 or 10 apps back in my recent apps list.

Happened to me at 5:30 this morning. It’s been happening throughout the past few weeks. I noticed once it happened immediately after getting a YouTube notification. Something royally strange is going with YouTube.

I’ve disabled Notifications. Not sure why I had them on in the first place.

Same here! It happened once in the morning while I was still sleeping and happened just a few minutes ago as I was about to go to sleep. It did it the first time right after the update (like within 24hrs) it hadn’t happened in awhile so I thought it was a one time thing. This is super annoying.

device is iPhone 15. 18.1.1

I’m on 18.2 and this will happen even if the YouTube app isn’t opened or in the background. It straight up plays a random video in the background that I haven’t played, with no Lock Screen info or island info when unlocked, and I have to open the YouTube app then force close it to get it to stop.

Opening the YouTube app doesn’t even show the video that was being played. It’s very eerie and unsettling.

Youtube is randomly playing for me when it doesn’t even exit in my task switcher. I don’t even have the option to close the app out. I have to restart my phone.

I am not sure it’s just YouTube problem here as Overcast a podcast app that I used resumed playing my podcast 3AM the other day.

This issue happens pretty consistently, so far the temporary solution is that if you see a resume/pause widget for the content you were listening/watching, close that app from the task switcher and if the widget goes away it won’t happen.

Same here, I am in Europe and both me and my 17 year old son experienced this, him on an 11 pro max, I on a 13 - ios18 seems to be the problem. In meetings people think I am not serious when my phone all of as sudden starts babbling away - Apple please fix this

Yeah, this is very annoying as YT does not show what’s being played. Started happening after iOS 18 update. Device: iPhone 13 mini.

I’ve been experiencing the same issue, and it keeps occurring three times a day, even during phone calls, while driving.

I’ve the same issue and luckily … so far nothing bad is played. But it starts randomly and random times … during meetings in conf rooms… during dinner and midnight. Very embarrassing.

It happened to me even before the upgrade to ios18.

I am having the same issue and it happens around 1-3AM almost all the time. This needs to get fixed as soon as possible.

I’ve had this happening. I just turned off background app refresh so maybe that will help?
