Can Screen Protector damage my MacBook Air screen?

You can just use a soft microfibre or clean cotton cloth slightly moistened with clean water or glass cleaner to wipe it clean. You don't need to scrub. Don't spray directly onto the screen though, only on to the cloth and you'll be fine.

Screen Protector Damaging a MacBook Air Screen:

Yes. It can lead to overheating, and condensation. So, avoid using one, altogether.

along with TheLittles' reply, when you close the screen, there is no space between the body and screen of the Mac. adding extra thickness to the screen in the form of a protector can result in a cracked display.
