How to permanently remove the bookmark tab in Safari in MacBook Pro?

Please inform us as to how to permanently remove the bookmark tab on the left-hand side of screen. Using MacBook Pro 2017 safari web browser.

Remove bookmark icons I updated my '23 MBP to Sonoma yesterday and noticed that the bookmark icons are in my Safari bookmarks bar. I preferred it when the name only appeared and I've gone through "settings" multiple times. Any suggestions or is it hidden somewhere in preferences? TIA

how do I get rid of small tab at the left hand side of Safari windows windows? I don't know how to reproduce it, it has shown up as small tab and I can't get rid of it. I'm not surf this is associated with bookmarks or not, or with "new empty tab group". I just can't get rid of it and I would like to learn how to prevent it coming back.. Thanks for any help!

Right click the Safari toolbar, choose "Customize Toolbar..." (and ignore the popup window) so that the toolbar icons giggle and drag out the icon.
