Unwanted alerts triggered by SOS mode.

SOS activated by mistake, now everything is movement to new location it send text messages to emergency contacts

Hi so this questions for my father he's elderly and accidentally activated SOS on his phone earlier today. The authorities call them and found out that there's nothing wrong and that should be the end of it, however when he activated it it sent me his location in a text message saying he'd activated the SOS. Hours later every time he changes his location physically it's a new place I receive a new message saying this person had activated SOS and he's now moved. How do I stop this and explain it to him. Thank you.

He needs to cancel the SOS by either shutting down the phone or force restarting it:

Depending on your iPhone model:

On an iPhone 8 or later and all SE generations:

The "Up, Down, Side" instructions require some precision:

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME UP

     then

  • Press and quickly release VOLUME DOWN

     then

  • Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears (15-30 seconds), ignoring "slide to power off" if it appears

The operative word here is QUICKLY; and try it a couple of times, the timing is a little tricky. If done correctly this will always work unless the phone has a hardware problem.

  • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Side and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
  • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
