External CD Drive

I have an Apple CD Drive I have been using a few years. When plugged in it no longer brings up an icon on my desktop. It DOES whir and makes sounds as if the computer recognises it, but no icons appears to use it. It has a DVD in it I'd like to get out - maybe thats the problem ? Any suggestions welcome

My external CD/ DVD Apple Model A1379 when plugged in makes a sound but when you insert a DVD/CD it just spits it back out. I have attached my Apple USB SuperDrive to the USB-A port on my MacBook Pro but I am getting no icon on my desktop to allow me to access the SuperDrive. I can hear the disc drive running but when it is plugged in to my MacBook Pro I am not able to find an icon on my desk top or in my finder that allows me to operate my USB SuperDrive. I now have a disc in the device which I can't eject.

Just bought: VikTck USB-C Superdrive External DVD/CD Drive for Laptop,USB3.0/Type-C CD/DVD Burner External DVD Drive Portable DVD Player for Laptop Desktop PC Apple Mac Windows 11/10/8/7/XP Linux OS and still no joy. Any advice or possibly operating tips for the Drive above? thanks
