Return to the store. If a day or two over the 14 day period, speak to a store manager and explain the delay and ask for an exception to the policy. It wouldn’t hurt to purchase Apple Pay, if you haven’t already.

You cannot return an iPhone purchased at a retail store or Apple Authorized reseller to Apple.
Some items purchased at Apple online stores cannot be returned to Apple Retail Stores.
