This just began after I upgraded to IOS 18.1.1. My call log shows calls I did not make. The numbers aren't familiar to me. No one has access to my phone or my password. Is it possible that the call log is recording texts? I did reply "Stop" to a couple spam text messages.

Unless you called rather than texted them, no. Only voice calls are included in the voice call log.
Right. But when I reply STOP to unwanted text messages from stores, political campaigns, etc., they really do stop. My question is whether a response to a text message is included in the log of voice calls. I just can't figure out where else those unknown numbers would have come from.

I certainly didn't mean to embarrass you! I've done that. Worse, I've seen calls to people I know in the list and who I don't remember calling....

Just FYI, do not reply "stop" to spam calls. All that does is let the sender know they have an active number. More spam will certainly follow now.
