Unrecognized claim for AppleCare theft/loss

My phone got stolen so I wanted to file a claim for apple care theft and loss, but it shows there is already a claim in progress even though I hadn't claimed it yet. I got the following email:-

Product: iPhone 13

Date of Claim: 11-26-2024

Case: 10xxxxxx38

Phone number: +44 xx xxxx xx00

We’re sorry you are without your device.Please save this email, as it contains the information you’ll need to check the status of your claim. Once AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL GROUP UK LTD receives your information, they will send you an email with further instructions.

but the phone number stated in this claim, is not mine. is it possible to cancel this claim so I can submit a new one. thank you.

That sounds quite suspicious to me. While I can't say with certainty, that sounds like the thieves, probably finding that they can't use the iPhone, have fraudulently filed a claim. I would suggest that you contact Apple Support as soon as you can and discuss this issue with them:

They may be able to at least direct you to the proper resource to challenge the existing claim.
