Security patches in iOS 17.7.2 prompting update to 18.1.1

Why am I being prompted to update from iOS 17.7.2 to 18.1.1? My understanding is that 17.7.2 contained the two critical security patches.

Update: My iPhone was configured to automatically download (but not install) iOS updates. I switched that setting to off and then deleted the iOS 18.1.1 download under the iPhone storage section. Problem solved!

SravanKrA, thank you for sharing in your reply. I’m still somewhat confused as my understanding after reading several articles is that both iOS 17.7.2 and 18.1.1 were rolled out simultaneously as emergency updates to address two specific vulnerabilities. Both updates addressed these two issues. iOS 17.7.2 was created for “older devices” and for those not ready to make the leap to iOS 18. I understand that there are a number of new features in iOS 18 but I purposely decided to stay with iOS 17 while bugs were identified and worked out for iOS 18. I guess it comes down to whether iOS 17.7.2 addresses all of the latest security vulnerabilities (like I understood it to do) or not. If it does, then I don’t understand the prompt to update to iOS 18.1.1
