Best Apple Watch available for a child to be used without an iPhone

I’m wanting to buy my 10-year-old a Apple Watch but he doesn’t have an iPhone yet so I don’t want the watch to send to my iPhone messages to his watch. I’m guessing it needs to have its own Sim so he can text and call me if required and also so I can track him via GPS. Do any Apple watches do this?

Sorry I hate reading about all the different products and what each one dose I just want something that works and go and buy it.

Apple Watches cellular set up for a child can do that. So if you want to buy him a watch make sure that you buy a GPS+cellular model and not a GPS Only model

So I ended up getting 2nd generation SE cellular + GPS watch for my son. But it’s saying I can’t add a mobile plan to it. Is it because New Zealand doesn’t support it for kids. Where can I get technical support? We don’t have any Apple stores and the mobile phone providers haven’t been of any help.
