How can I convert Folder of Files to PDF on my iMac?

I am not too familiar with files and folders. Now I want to drag and drop all of my stories from textedit into a folder. Once I have done all of this, how do I turn that folder into a pdf so I can send it to a printer to be put into a booklet?

+1 D.I is correct. Think of a folder just like a folder inside your file cabinet at home. The folder is simply a container to hold documents. The documents inside the container can many times be converted to PDFs using Acrobat or even the Preview App (currently installed on your computer.) Once you have the PDFs in the folder you can then use Preview to put them all into the same document and organize them in the order you want. Once you have that done, you can print them out.

You won't be converting the folder into a PDF, you'll want to convert each of your story files into PDF for your printer. And then maybe compress the whole folder for travel through the email.

If you have Adobe Acrobat you may be able to batch convert your text files (.txt) to pdf.

Convert TXT to PDF - Adobe Acrobat

TextEdit can itself directly export its files individually as PDF files.

I don't know if macOS can batch convert text files to PDF, but I'm sure someone has figured it out.

You're welcome.

I know these things can easily get to feeling like they're overwhelming, but if you take them one step at a time you can get through it. If you know someone close who is savvy ask them to assist. 🙂

May I ask how many stories or documents you hope to present to your printing service?

Do you now have these document files collected in one location on the drive - in a single folder?

This would be step 1.

Did you speak with someone who told you the files need to be in pdf format for printing?

If so, can you contact them again and ask if there is a particular type of pdf format they require?

That will be step 2.

Step 3 will be converting the documents into an acceptable format - the format that your printing service requires. As VikingOSX has posted, PDF/X format might be required, but you can tackle that when you get to it.

Will wait to hear back from you.

The first thing you should do is check what type of PDF the printer expects. If the printer requires PDF/X print-specialized documents and does not offer a service to convert your PDFs to PDF/X, then you will need a subscription, or paid tool (e.g Adobe Acrobat Pro, or Affinity Publisher) to prep the PDFs for print submission.

This gets trickier if your "text" files are TextEdit's Rich Text Format (.rtf) documents and not plain text.

Thank you Less. I have about 100 stories, som of which I have begun to drag and drop into a folder. My printer told me that their computer system is not compatible with Mac but that if I could send them to her in PDF form, it would work.

i think that I will probably need to find someone to help, as was suggested, if I am to get this done. But I do appreciate all of the help and perhaps I understand a bit more now than before.
