FaceID not working right in Notes

In the past couple of weeks, FaceID has been acting strangely. It doesn’t open locked notes when I try it. After I type in my password, ALL of my locked Notes are opened, not just the one I was trying to open. If I pull up on Notes to switch apps and then go back to my unlocked notes, none of them are locked. However, if I close the Notes app completely and then reopen it, all of my locked notes are locked again. I’m using iOS 18.1.1 on an iPhone 15 Pro. It also happens on my iPad 10th generation. It doesn’t happen with apps other than Notes. This problem just recently started happening.

I figured out the problem. I had to go to Settings > Apps > Notes > Password > iCloud > Use FaceID and switch it back on. I have no idea how it got changed to the off setting - maybe after an OS update - because I had always used it to lock certain Notes.

Now if I could just fix it so the phone doesn’t make me type in my passcode randomly when I should be able to use FaceID, I’d be a happy camper. It’s somewhat embarrassing when I go to use contactless payment and FaceID doesn’t work and I have to type in my 7 letter passcode…

For those of you who have one passcode to open your phone and a DIFFERENT passcode for Notes, this screen also lets you specify that one passcode opens BOTH. But if you forgot your Notes passcode and it’s different from the main one you use to open your phone, etc, I think you’re out of luck. Sorry.
