“this copy of the macOS High Sierra application is damaged and can’t be used to install macOS.” while installing macOS High Sierra.

I tried factory resetting MacBook Pro but now when I try installing macOS High Sierra it gives me the error message “this copy of the macOS High Sierra application is damaged and can’t be used to install macOS.” Has anybody had this similar problem? If so is it fixable and how do I fix it? Thank you in advance!!

That error message typically appears when the system date in the Mac is more recent than the expiration date of the certificate embedded in the High Sierra installer. If you can, try resetting the Mac's internal date to a date prior to Nov. 12, 2020, which was the date of the final release of High Sierra (10.13.6). Perhaps via Recovery - Terminal??

If you can get to Terminal, enter the following commands:

date - this will display the current date set in the Mac

sudo date MMDDhhmmYY - this syntax of 2-digit numbers will will set the date & time

sudo date 1112160420 - this example would set the date to Nov 12 2020 at 16:04 hours
