How can I regain the spoken word notification for a phone call through my AirPods?

So here is the situation. I am walking along with my iPhone in my pocket and listening to AirPods. I get a sound notification on the phone as well as the phone itself vibrating. This is great, but in the past, I would get a message through the AirPods – the spoken word –saying that there was a call for me from whoever, and do I wish to take the call? This is way more convenient than having to reach into my pocket to get the phone and answer the call manually. I think the change may have something to do with my upgrading to iOS 18. How can I regain the spoken word notification for a phone call through my AirPods?
