I recently got a new iPhone 16 Pro and iPad Pro 11". I have a recliner with a USB port. The USB to USB-c cable I have works fine with my iPhone but not with my iPad. It will not charge the iPad. I get the same results when I plug the USB end into my Mac laptop. I've read that the USB port in the recliner may not be strong enough to charge the iPad. Can anyone confirm this? Also, why would the same happen when I connect to my Mac?
The USB Type-A power socket of your chair simply cannot supply sufficient power to charge your iPad - period.
As a pragmatic alternative, have you considered simply using a suitable Power Adapter (i.e. USB-C 20W or greater) with an appropriately long USB-C charging cable? This will resolve your issue.

If a 3m cable isn't sufficiently long (noting that your chair already has a connection to AC-power), simply provide an AC extension cable from an adjacent AC wall-socket - and connect the Power Adapter to ten extension cable.

Most models of iPad require a Power Adapter rated at 12W (i.e., 2.4A @5V) or greater to reliably charge.
5W power sources and Power Adapters (1.0A @5V) - capable of charging many iPhone modes - are inadequate to charge an iPad. If the iPad charges at all, charging will be very slow.
With the exception of EU and UK, recent models of iPad are supplied with a 20W USB-C Power Adapter.

Had your chair been equipped with a USB-C port instead of USB Type-A, one might reasonably speculate that it might have a greater power output sufficient to charge devices with greater power needs. Unfortunately, the vast majority of USB Type-A outlets - such as those of many computers, infotainment, automotive and furniture - are typically limited to 5-10W (i.e. 1-2A @5V). An iPhone has much lower power needs than an iPad.
If my chair's USB port doesn't put out enough power, is a cable with a repeater an option or should I just not plan to plug my iPad into my chair?
I'm not sure what sort of cable you'd be thinking of that would have a "repeater", but it would need to have an external power supply, such as some USB hubs do.

Yes, I guess this is what I'll need to do. It's just a shame because with my older equipment it was easy peasy through the port on my chair. But I do like my new iPad so I'll just suck it up! Thanks.
