Photos folders won’t open after 18.1 update

My iPhone 14Pro recently updated to 18.1 and now many of my Photo albums won’t let me access any of the pictures within the folders inside of the album. Once I click on the Album, it opens and shows the list of folders, but is completely frozen at that point. I can’t access the folders or even back out of the page. I have to completely shut down the Photos app to get out of the page. I can’t access any of my passwords I have saved as pictures or photos I need for work, much less personal photos.

Also, the search function is pretty much useless. I search for a word that used to bring up relevant results. Now there are hardly any pictures pulled up, and what is presented has nothing to do with the word I searched.

Please fix this as soon as possible.

Nobody here can fix Photos. We are almost all just other users. The few Apple folks are here to manage the forums and keep order. If you need to request help or report a problem, you should use the official support pathways (such as the Support link ar bottom left on this page in my browser) or the official feedback pathway (Feedback - Photos - Apple).

We may be able to give advice based on user experience. Here are a few observations that seem relevant to your issues.

Many users have found that the search functions work poorly at first after the 18.1 update on their Macs but work better after the index builds back up (days or weeks depending on library size and Mac speed). There are reports that the search function has changed in some ways that are not necessarily documented.

The freeze while displaying library structure is not a familiar complaint. (By the way, a small point of terminology: in Photos, Folders contain Albums and other Folders, but Albums may never contain Folders.)

Thank you markwmsm for your feedback and terminology tweaking. I will contact the support pathway you suggested. I was hoping it would correct itself in time, but it hasn’t (as far as folders and albums not being accessible), so I will need to dig a little deeper to find a solution. Interesting that others aren’t having that problem.
