iPad Pro 12.9 5th gen. Screen gone dark.

Hello everyone. I have an IPad Pro 12.9 5th gen. And today while it was being used, it got 1/4 of the screen in black and the rest is normal. From the bottom of the iPad where the charging port is, to I’d say 1 inch is just pure black. A straight black section of the screen. The rest of the screen is displaying as normal. But. Every inch of the screen is responsive. Including the part that’s blacked out. I’ve talked to apple support and they couldn’t solve it. And sent me on my way to a repair shop. But I want to make sure if there’s anything I can do to get that fixed myself. I’ve restarted it and forced restarted it. Closed all apps and everything. Changed the position of the iPad from horizontal to vertical. But that dark section still remains. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

As described, your iPad Pro M1 may have had a partial failure of its miniLED backlight...

miniLED backlights use tiny LEDs that are distributed directly behind the LCD panel - the LEDs being grouped into thousands of individual dimming zones, the brightness of individual dimming zones being independently controlled. As such, screen brightness contrast is significantly improved over traditional LCD backlighting systems. Partial failure will be evidenced by individual patches, or entire strips of the screen, losing rear illumination.

iPads without miniLED backlights are edge-lit by dozens of LEDs arranged around the periphery of the screen. The edge-backlight is distributed across the rear surface of the LCD screen by a backlight diffuser layer - this providing even backlighting for the entire screen. Partial failure of edge backlighting is characterised by brighter and darker patches around the periphery of the screen.

With both types of screen, the only remedy for a backlight failure is total screen replacement:
