I’m not sure if i have bought the wrong apple pencil (USB - C) for my iPad (8th gen)

Hi, I have just bought an Apple pencil USB - C version for my 8th Gen iPad. After trying to connect it multiple times and updating my iPad to the new IOS 18, it still won’t connect. I’m not sure if i have bought the wrong pencil,or i am just connecting it wrong, just looking for some advice.

yeah, you've bought the wrong Apple Pencil I am afraid
