Snapchat not being blocked by Screen Time

Snapchat is not being blocked by Screen Time's Downtime or App Limits. This has been a struggle for a while, and it seems to be the only app not properly blocked by Screen Time as configured. This includes Block at end of App Limits and Block at Downtime

The device and software:

  • iPhone 12, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 Pro
  • iOS 18.1.1 (double-checked 2024.12.05)
  • All apps (including Snapchat) updated to the latest version available (as of 2024.12.05)

Screen Time settings:

  • "Block at Downtime" enabled
  • Downtime schedule enabled and configured
  • App Limits is enabled
    • "App Limit" is enabled
    • Snapchat app and "snapchat.com" is configured with a 2hr limit
    • "Block at End of Limit" is enabled
  • Always Allowed
    • Phone, Messages, FaceTime, and Spotify are the only apps listed in "Allowed Apps"
  • Content & Privacy Restrictions is enabled.
    • A long laundry list of things are set to "Don't Allow" including "Date & Time Set Automatically"

Troubleshooting Steps (just last night):

  • Make sure everything is up-to-date
  • Rebooting the phone
  • Disabling Screen Time, rebooting, reenabling Screen Time
  • Adding Snapchat to "Always Allowed", rebooting, removing from "Always Allowed", and rebooting again.
  • Deleting and reinstalling Snapchat
  • Verifying that Screen Time is working for all other installed (non-Apple) apps.
  • Trying to use Brick app to block (unfortunately, it uses Screen Time and is subject to the same defects)
  • Other things that I can't quite remember because we have been fighting with this for the year and a half that the teen has had Snapchat

What I am hoping for is that one thing that worked for everyone with a similar issue on the current version (vs. the myriad of similar posts on older versions across the internet). Or Apple saying "Aware and fixing... look for it in 18.x".

My least desired but still welcomed outcome is a technical reason why it isn't working that someone has dug into (like it was a platform security issue (like an OS or App vulnerability/exploit)) that I can at least point at and know it isn't just me and there is a legit technical explanation... even if it just makes me mad at Apple for not properly vetting apps and their ability to work around iOS's controls.
