i bought iPhone 16 pro max and

i need to return my old phone within 15 days (trade in)

and activation lock is not turning off and nothing can be done from the customer support side.

i texted Mauricio Umana and he/she wouldn't help.

and with further chat i received a message to contact apple support number and a generalized link Apple Store Online - Holiday Gifts - Apple.

This is a user-to-user forum. We cannot remove Activation Lock for you. Apple won't, unless you have proof of original purchase that is satisfactory to them – e.g., from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller, clearly showing your name and the phone's serial number.

Log in to https://icloud.com/find using the Apple ID and password that the phone is logged in to, click on the device in the Devices list and remove it from your account.
