The application "One Drive" could not be found

What does this mean, and what can I do to fix it? I have put most of my documents on One Drive. I can see them but sometimes have trouble adding new files. The little cloud icon next to recently added files has an exclamation mark inside of it.

I have MacOS 12 Monterey - would updating it fix this???

MacOS Monterey & OneDrive issues Does anyone have an issue with opening OneDrive documents across their Apple devices? Either one of the two errors pop up when I attempt to open a file on my (2018) Macbook Pro’s OneDrive (my (2021) iMac’s OneDrive works fine when I do the same though). The error will either say “Couldn’t communicate with helper application” OR it will say “File x could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize”. For me, I have checked the syncing, updating iMac and Macbook Pro to Monterey 12.5.1, uninstalling and reinstalling OneDrive, checking permissions, restarting my devices...and there is still the same issue. I work on my laptop on the go, (sometimes I’ll have wifi and sometimes not) and when at home I work on my iMac. It is super inconvenient to go onto the web, log into OneDrive and search for and download x files onto my Macbook Pro just to access and work on a document. The point of having the OneDrive app on a desktop and laptop is so that it can sync together and be accessible on your devices when needed. I have been encountering this issue the past few months. Hoping someone can help or offer solutions! Thank you in advance!!

The "filename" can't be found error message when trying to open a file I have moved on the same volume of shared storage The problem doesn't happen on older versions of MacOS. It seems to have started on recent upgrades to Monterey and Ventura. Didn't experience the problem before. Accessing the files with SMB on shared storage (NAS) I move files from one folder to another on the same volume Double Click on a file in the folder where the files were moved I get a "filename.extension" can't be found message. ("the selected filename") If I access the same file from another computer with the same user rights it opens fine If I use Commander One as the file manager it opens fine If I open terminal and run open filename.extension it opens fine If I put a copy of the file that was moved into the previous directory it opens fine The conclusion is that the old file location is being cached and not updated when I double-click in the new "moved" file directory. This is confirmed by opening an Excel file and when I select Save As it shows the old directory (runs because I also had a copy there) I have tried the following changing nsbm.conf options defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores -bool TRUE Exclude Spotlight indexing on the netword drive Extensive Google and ChatGPT searching Any ideas to fix? Thanks.

Although Microsoft OneDrive is a free install from the Mac App Store or is available from the respective Microsoft Office 365 or Office 2021/2024 for Mac installers, it now requires macOS Ventura 13.* or later for new installation. Microsoft only currently supports Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia operating systems for new installations of its Office suites, or individual applications.
