Apple air m2 not connecting with apple pencil

I bought this iPad and apple pencil together on November 26. But I can't seem to connect the apple pencil to it. I've tried powering it off and on, I've tried charging it (left it on the side for an hour), and I've tried Bluetooth off and on, but it still won't connect.

Have you purchased a compatible Apple Pencil? The iPad Air M2 supports either the Apple Pencil Pro, or the lower cost USB-C Pencil. The earlier first and second generation Pencils are not supported by the Air M2.

The  Apple Pencil Pro is clearly marked as such on the flat edge of the Pencil. A second generation Pencil is simply identified as  Pencil.

If you purchased the Pencil directly from Apple, in most countries/regions Apple allows 14-days within which you can unconditionally return an undamaged item for exchange or refund.

If you purchased your Pencil elsewhere, you will need to investigate the retailers own returns policy.

In purchasing from Amazon, you have not purchased directly from Apple. Apple directly sells goods via its own official retail stores - or online through the Apple website.

While Amazon itself is an Apple Authorised Reseller, you are not purchasing directly from Apple. When purchasing from Amazon, be careful to verify the seller - as the seller of an item may be Amazon, or an independent retailer selling through the Amazon website (i.e., Amazon Marketplace).

As such, you will need to verify whether or not you purchased from Amazon itself, or another retailer - then investigate the returns policy of the retailer that sold the Pencil.
