I need Update my Mac and I need to know it's good for my device or maybe it does make it slow and impaired?

You can update that Mac as far as Big Sur - which, like Catalina, is out of date, won’t run 32-bit applications, but is good enough to let you run current versions of Firefox and LibreOffice.
