Kids bypass parental controls

my kids are able to bypass the time restrictions on apps on their iPads and iPhones By sending a request for more time. Going into messages and see the request message loaded at their side. Then going into settings -> messages -> toggle off and on iMessages.

then they can go back to messages and can approve all requests for themselves.

is this a known issue? How can I fix this?

we are running the latest versions 18.1.1

No they do not know my password. They do it exactly as I described.

I have 2 devices as well on a Family Plan using 18.1.1, so I set a screen time limit for 5 minutes on the Organizer device for the other phone and then requested more screen time on the other phone. I followed your example and toggled iMessage off/on and there was not a a way to approve the request by going back into Messages. This would be easy to reproduce, so I welcome input from others if they can duplicate it.

That would indicate that there is something else going on there. Do you have a Mac computer that is being used also by your kids that would give them access to Messages or possibly make other account changes?

If you have not already restricted Account Changes using Screen Time, I would also recommend doing that as well at Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Account Changes.

On your Child's phone, when you go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, it show 3 addresses. Tap on that and see what the addresses are that they can receive messages and also verify the Apple ID that it shows on the bottom of that screen as your sons.

Also, on your device, go to Settings > [name on top] > Family Sharing. What does it show under your Child's name?

The only way they would be able to view a message sent to you is if they know your Apple ID/Password. They can then sign into iMessage using your credentials. This intentional action to disobey your instructions and also access your personal information where they can see every message you send would be very concerning to me. That would not be OK with me and the smart phone option would be a privilege that must be earned.

Change your Passwords and Screen Time Passcode immediately.
