Issue with Endnotes in Word

I have a large manuscript in Word with many endnotes. Suddenly when I click on the superscripts in the main text they no longer take me to the endnote. And when I try to add a new endnote it starts being numbered as 1, instead of following the numbering of the endnotes that are already in the document. How can I solve these issues?
