Airdrop 'Contacts Only' issue with same Apple ID on Mac and iPhone

Airdropping from Mac to iPhone and vice versa does work, but only if I choose the 'Everyone for 10 Minutes' option, not with 'Contacts Only' despite using the same Apple ID for both the Mac and iPhone. I even separately added myself again as a contact in my iPhone, but that didn't solve it.

How I would like it to be (and how I imagine it should work): have the Airdrop from Macbook to iPhone possibility to always be there in Finder (of course with both devices on Wifi and Bluetooth turned on) for myself (i.e. my own Macbook and iPhone) and not having to choose 'Everyone for 10 Minutes' every time.

I have no screen time set up (I know some people will suggest looking at screen time settings)

Macbook Pro 2018 (MacOS Ventura 13.7.1) (yes, I'm holding on to Ventura for compatibility reasons - could this be the culprit?)

iPhone 12 mini (iOS 18.1.1)

Hey Max. Try opening Contacts, going to the search bar, and start typing your AppleID email or phone number. This will show any contact cards with your AppleID. Make sure to delete your AppleID from all contacts except one. Make sure to delete all the suggested ones too, for your AppleID. I believe the problem arises because Airdrop finds “you” as a nearby Airdrop target, but can’t decide which contact card to show on the Airdrop interface for “you”. So it shows none and there is no target for you to select.

I have had similar problems airdropping to people when their AppleID has been in more than one contact card in my Contacts app. Sometimes, randomly, my friend’s email addresses get assigned to a new blank contact by iOS, and that breaks Airdrop until I find and delete that contact.

Note: if you go to Airdrop and see “No people found”, I don’t think my tip is relevant. I believe the problem I am describing only has the symptom that the Airdrop list is empty, or the person nearby is not shown when you think they should be.

Im not sure why Airdrop has a problem with duplicated AppleID’s, or if this is even your problem, but I thought I’d suggest it just in case.
