macOS sequoia 15.2 update Mac Pro 2019 failed

Just tried updating 2019 Mac Pro from MacOS Sequoia 15.1 to 15.2 and it failed showing a circle with a line through it. Went to link provided - If your Mac starts up to a circle with a line through it - Apple Support

“A prohibitory symbol, which looks like a circle with a line or slash through it, means that your startup disk contains a Mac operating system, but it's not a version or build of macOS that your Mac can use.”

Reinstalling from recovery login now. Anyone else have this problem?

Okay, after *some* troubleshooting, I’ve figured out my Mac Pro will not boot with either external 4-bay Thunderbolt RAID drives (Akitio or OWC) plugged in. Boots fine and super fast without.

Boots fine with an external 4TB M.2 single drive enclosure and/or my OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock plugged in.

So… any thoughts?

Mac Pro 2019, 96GB ram, 1TB internal, AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16GB, internal OWC 4 slot M.2 PCI card with 8TB RAID0.

External drives: Akitio 4-bay with 24TB 4x6TB HDD RAID0, OWC Thunderbay 4 with 2x16TB HDD 32TB RAID0 and 2x12TB 24TB RAID0. (These externals stop boot if either or both are turned on.)

After longer use I've discovered that any drives connected to thunderbolt causes my fans to spin like turbines after a little while. This happens even WITHOUT the thunderbay 4 turned on/connected. I use a Samsung T9 for backup and a simple copy of a few hundred mbs takes forever which before the update took seconds to do maybe less. I think having the thunderbay 4 connected and turned while doing the OS update might have caused this issue?? Now I'm dreading to have to do an erase and re-install of everything.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the "upgrade" back to Sonoma.

When I installed Final Cut Pro 11 on Sequoia (15.1) I had massive problems with rendering. Basically, both Final Cut and Compressor were very unstable and rarely completed rendering in the first go. Even worse, they occasionally disconnect my render drives (guess what - those drives were connected via thunderbolt 4...). In such a case, I needed to reboot the whole computer and render again.

Now back on Sonoma, Final Cut Pro 11 works like a charm. Zero problems.

One little hack I've discovered that's letting me stay on Sequoia even with this epic hassle:

As you know, with Sequoia 15.2 you can't restart/boot-up your Intel Mac with peripherals plugged in or it won't finish starting up. However, I've discovered that...

If you plug your peripherals back in (USB Hubs and/or Thunderbolt devices) just before you type in your password, then the Mac will mount the devices (once you've logged in).

Would love to know if anyone's taken the time to call into Apple Support to flag this as a serious problem. (Of course, the answer is likely "Buy an M-based Mac" I would expect.

This is nothing short of a scandal! I am a loyal Apple customer and use many Apple products. (from a Mac Pro to an Apple watch and everything in between). ****, I even own Apple stock!

My 2019 Mac Pro was doing just fine until, you guessed it…15.2…..!?

I use this machine as the heart of a recording studio. Just like everyone else in this thread…can’t use TB peripherals….won’t boot until they’re disconnected. I took it to Apple! They reinstalled Sequoia and it worked until I took it home and hooked up my peripherals. You know the rest. I’m disgusted.

Come on Apple!

My 2019 MP took the update, but devices (keyboard, mouse, external RAID) connected via Thunderbolt adapters are not recognized after initial Filevault unlock. USB-A keyboard connected via adapter works for the initial password entry at bootup but not at the login screen. Same keyboard/mouse works fine if directly connected to a USB-A rear panel port. This affects Apple TB2 to TB3 and Lightning to TB3 (iPhone) adapters and 3rd party USB-A to TB3 adapters connected to any of the Mac rear panel TB ports or XDR display TB ports. System Report says no Thunderbolt drivers loaded. Attempts to re-install via recovery unsuccessful so far. Install does not seem to complete.
