macOS sequoia 15.2 update Mac Pro 2019 failed

Just tried updating 2019 Mac Pro from MacOS Sequoia 15.1 to 15.2 and it failed showing a circle with a line through it. Went to link provided - If your Mac starts up to a circle with a line through it - Apple Support

“A prohibitory symbol, which looks like a circle with a line or slash through it, means that your startup disk contains a Mac operating system, but it's not a version or build of macOS that your Mac can use.”

Reinstalling from recovery login now. Anyone else have this problem?

Okay, after *some* troubleshooting, I’ve figured out my Mac Pro will not boot with either external 4-bay Thunderbolt RAID drives (Akitio or OWC) plugged in. Boots fine and super fast without.

Boots fine with an external 4TB M.2 single drive enclosure and/or my OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock plugged in.

So… any thoughts?

Mac Pro 2019, 96GB ram, 1TB internal, AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16GB, internal OWC 4 slot M.2 PCI card with 8TB RAID0.

External drives: Akitio 4-bay with 24TB 4x6TB HDD RAID0, OWC Thunderbay 4 with 2x16TB HDD 32TB RAID0 and 2x12TB 24TB RAID0. (These externals stop boot if either or both are turned on.)

OWC Thunderbay 4, Akitio 4-bay, connected directly through thunderbolt to my 2019 MacPro. Mac won’t boot with drives connected turned on, will boot with them off. Turn them on at login screen and they work fine.

Just did a BlackMagic disk speed test on my OWC Express 1M2 Media (Thunderbolt 4) with a 4TB Crucial m.2 SSD connected through my OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock.

~890 write, ~904 read

Can you test your Samsung and let us know the results (Blackmagic Disk Speed Test is free on the Mac App Store)?

This is what I got on a few tests...

Samsung T9 - from top port of MP : write: 10.4 / read: 906.3
Samsung T7 - from back port of MP: write: 22.6 / read: 894.9
Thunderbay 4 (thunderbolt 3) - from Samsung EVO 870 4TB disk: write: 503.9 / read: 534.1
OWC Accelsior 4M2 - from internal PCI: write: 3118.7 / read: 3966.7

My OWC Accelsior 4M2 used to unmount unexpectedly and would not load on boot. Had to re-boot or restart multiple times to get it to load. But since Sequoia I haven't had that issue. Reached out to OWC for support but could not get an answer or fix. This is why I got the Thunderbay 4 enclosure.

Samsung writes, holy moly. Have you checked with Samsung support?

I have an OWC Express 1m2 with a Crucial 4TB m.2 and it's read and write both are around 900. No fan, but it's barely warm to the touch.

All your others match about what I'm getting for comparable drives.

I know...that read speed is like molasses but write looks fine.

I'm pretty sure it's not the Samsung drives I use it pretty often and the reduction in speed only happened after the OS update. I've also tested the drives on a MacBook Pro with Sonoma and they operate normal.

According to the Apple support guy who helped me, they DO look/monitor this discussion forum but only at discussion headings level search, so this TB issue - a subject off the original post, doesn't come on their radar for them. If people reported it like I did - they need that info to make changes - he said - it can be looked at.

I reported it to apple before Xmas. They have taken some logs and are apparently investigating. If it helps the case number for it is: Case ID: 1***********3

Don't you just love it when your Mac reboots 3 times and crashes? [make that rhetorical]

Did you have to restart or did it reboot the final time on its own?

I'm upgrading now. Wish me "Break a leg!" or whatever works best on Mac software updates...

On the 5th reboot it has now stopped at 50% on the completion bar for about 15 minutes. I think I’m doa.

Guess I’ll try recovery and restore. Very disappointed this update fails. Ugh!

Just FYI, my RAIDs are all done through Apple Disk Utility, not SoftRaid.

OWC reckon a fix will come in 15.3 (but then what else might be screwed up?).
