Unable to use Personal Hotspot after updating iPhone to iOS 18.2

I recently updated my iPhone to iOS 18.2, and since the update, I am unable to turn on the personal hotspot. This has caused significant disruption to my work, as I rely on the hotspot feature for internet connectivity.

This issue is not just a technical inconvenience; it is impacting my productivity and, consequently, my financial situation. I have always trusted Apple for its reliable products and updates, but this experience has deeply shaken that trust.

I urge Apple to address this issue urgently. If a solution is not provided promptly, I will have no choice but to escalate the matter further and file a formal complaint.

Please provide a resolution as soon as possible, as this is affecting my ability to work and causing unnecessary stress

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN.

After that, contact your carrier; they are responsible for maintaining the personal hotspot.

You like shouting into the wind? That’s all you accomplished with your post. This is a user to user forum, not a way to communicate with Apple.

However, it is still NOT an Apple problem, no matter what you think. It is a problem with your phone. Here are a couple of possible causes:

  • Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN.
  • BY DESIGN, the Personal Hotspot will disconnect after an extended period of inactivity to preserve the remaining energy in your iPhone’s battery, because hotspot is an energy hog.
