MacBook Pro freezes, I can't click anything

This has happened a few times already on my MBP: with a few tabs open (I use the Brave browser) including YouTube. I could not click or x out of any tab. This time, the YouTube video played until the end. I could not even quit Brave by pressing command + Q. I could not click the Apple icon to get to "force quit." I finally had to just hold the power button down for several seconds to turn off the MBP. The latest new thing about this freeze is my cursor's appearance changed from the usual arrow image to a capital letter "I" image. Has this happened to anyone of you before? I've been using this MBP for less than a year and it is quite annoying. I am afraid that pressing the power button whenever the MBP freezes will eventually destroy the hard drive. Any advice will really help. Thank you.
