Stopped 'filter' error when printing from MacBook Pro to HP LaserJet 1160

print from MacBook Pro MacOs 15.1.1 to HP laserjet 1160 produces the message stopped "filter" failed

I know it's a long shot for such an old printer . What does the message even mean? Thanks!

Addendum

The Open Printing web site has some information about the LaserJet 1160 and Linux (https://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-LaserJet_1160), which possibly could be useful if an experimental workaround involving a Linux-based Raspberry Pi print server with AirPrint-like qualities would be of interest. See, for example, details posted by Techguyuk (Can’t print with iPadOS17 - Apple Community) and Tesserax (Can I connect my laser printer to my netw… - Apple Community).

It worked with my old computer running high sierra. I was hoping for a generic driver, but I didn’t find the hp site to be helpful, though your link doesn’t look familiar. I’ll give it a try. The Linux solution might work for me with help from my family. Right now I’m keeping my old high sierra machine (2010) and sending it files to print. I don’t print much. I know Apple isn’t the company for me if I want to keep such old stuff, but I thought I’d ask. Thanks!
