iPhone screen not locking during WhatsApp calls after recent update

Hi, currently when using WhatsApp the device screen no longer locks, meaning while the app may be secure, the call is not. I suspect this has dropped off after a recent software update. Can you (Apple) please advise if you're aware of this issue, & when a fix is likely please?

The issue is with WhatsApp itself, since the phone is locking in other areas when it should. Perhaps iOS 18.2 will fix it, but it's doubtful. Meta, the parent company who owns WhatsApp has released overly buggy software lately. If it's not working in WhatsApp, you need to let Meta know. Apple has NO control over 3rd party apps. They don't own the code, so they can't fix a 3rd party app developers software at all.

Hello again, markmdc.

It’s an Apple related forum, it’s quite possible that some other user has come across the issue…

I see. Also, sorry, I misunderstood your comment the last time. This actually sound like WhatsApp’s problem. Contact the developer of the app for assistance. My bad!

…also I think you may be mistaken if you believe Apple don’t monitor these feeds…

You’re right— in a way. Specific people hired to be moderators do, but Apple itself doesn’t. Even then, the moderators only change titles. They also slightly alter comments or delete posts, but only when posts are reported.

Once again, sorry about the misunderstanding.

To clarify, you're saying that, when you hold the phone to your ear during a WhatsApp call, the screen does not lock. Does the screen lock when you do the same on a regular call? A Facetime call?

This has been a problem has been reported off and on with WhatsApp for a while. It appears to be a WhatsApp issue rather than anything Apple did. I suggest that you start by deleting the app and re-installing it.

I think you’re mistaken. We are not Apple. This is a user-to-user forum; Apple does not read these posts. I heard, though, that iOS 18.2 fixed this. Have you installed it yet? If not, then you should try installing it and seeing whether or not the issue persists. If it does, you should submit a bug report on Apple’s feedback page.

I hope this helps!

The Hosts, the only Apple employees who routinely read here, do not respond in threads except in cases of health or safety. On rare occasions, if there is a particular problem some Apple engineers are working on, they may come to the forums to find examples of the issue and may even contact people. I've had this happen. However, as this issue is likely a WhatsApp issue or an issue with your particular hardware, that's not going to happen.

If you want to contact Apple directly about your issue, you can use the Support link at the bottom left of every page of this forum.

Meanwhile, see my previous post.

Yes, it's most likely a software issue with WhatsApp. Especially if it's locking normally with everything else. This has been and on again/off again problem with WhatsApp for more than a year.
