iPhone screen goes black during WhatsApp voice messages and calls

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue where my iPhone screen goes completely black while using WhatsApp. It happens consistently during WhatsApp voice calls, and sometimes while listening to long voice messages too. The screen won’t turn back on unless I press a button.

This makes it hard to interact with the app mid-call or pause a long message. Is this a known issue with the proximity sensor or something else? For context, I’m using iPhone 15 Pro on IOS 18.5

The issue of your iPhone screen going black during WhatsApp voice messages or calls is likely due to the proximity sensor being triggered. This sensor is designed to turn off the screen when the phone is held close to your ear during a call to prevent accidental screen presses. If the sensor is accidentally covered, or there's an issue with the sensor itself, it can cause the screen to go black.

Check Proximity Sensor:

Make sure your hand or fingers aren't inadvertently covering the proximity sensor, which is located near the top of the screen, according to WhatsApp Help Center. Also, ensure that your screen protector or case isn't covering the sensor, according to Apple Support.
