I get what you're saying, but it would be nice if the tools that are supposed to allow users to manage spam would work. That is something Apple should be focused on, in my opinion. They can do something about that.
It may not be very often but I would rather fight the problem from the sender address than use Subject since there could be a problem there. Rules is already built to address the problem but for some reason it doesn't work.
Yes, that is the best way to deal with it I just need to have it in trash to relocate just in case it is from my work, Shutterfly. After 30 days there is a rule to delete any message received more than 30 days ago that is in Junk as well. I wish there was a way to create a rule that would automatically delete all emails in the trash after 30 days but I have not been able to find a way to do this.
Thank you soo much for your research and time with Apple Support. I went ahead and followed the instructions you outlined from the reboot to deleting the old rule and CREATING A NEW RULE (parameters matched what I had, but it was NEW) as shown in your screen shot. I am cautiously optimistic that this may have done the trick! My junk mail has been quiet for the last few hours! I like Lawrence's suggestion, too, to just go ahead and delete the emails ... saves a step for anyone who doesn't want/need to review before final deletion.
going to try the rules now to see if they work for me.
I've got at least 50 blocked contacts now with some variation of the em.shutterfly.com/somecountry blocking those added a lot of other junk to the trash but still continued to get more.

yes I should of done that straight away, i made 3 or 4 separate ones and the spam is gone. not even in my junk mail. love that.
I'll snag this screen cap for future use when I get into doing this for my elders that are getting blasted.

Me too and dozens per day. Apple Mail filters ok buy after a few should just not send anymore.
getting well over a hundred daily all of a sudden in my junk box.
I work for Shutterfly the real company so I can't do that.
Can't disagree with that. When a filter has an exact match to an email, and it still goes to your inbox, that's a problem.

correct. nothing works. I am on Support with a "Level 2" support agent now trying to figure out why rules do not even do anything!
