Effects will not save to FCPX

I have been using Motion for a few years, never had any problems until now. I save my effects to FCPX after creating in Motion. I recently deleted a Motion effect in the FCPX installed effects menu, and now my effects will not save to FCPX (coincidence?) - I uninstalled Motion and reinstalled. but still having this issue.

I may have deleted too much

I created a test effect in motion and it seemed to save successfully

then in FCPX went to the added motion effect

tried to add the effect to the timeline but get this instead, and the system goes into perpetual downloading mode until I undo the adding of the effect

Sometimes the effect will show the error in red, sometimes it will not

and now it will not let me add any of my effects, even the ones that were made before I made the mistake deleting folders

here is the motion template folder

Let's try to go step by step. I don't know what it is that you deleted, or changed, so I will try

to tell how it should be, and hopefully we may get it back into working condition.

It seems that Final Cut Pro only "sees" the built-in generators, and not the ones that were added.

This suggests that somehow the folder hierarchy is messed up.

0) Quit FCP.

1) Select the Motion Templates folder and press Command-I to open the Info window.

Make sure that it is "localized" - it should have the extension as shown below. (This extension will NOT appear in the Finder):

2) Repeat the same thing, for each of the four folders "Generators", "Titles", "Effects" and "Transitions".

3) Start FCP and see if your generators appear again.

I quit FCPX and did what you suggested - all folders are localized from what I can tell - still having problems

Although I was wrong about the other effects - the ones I made prior to deleting the folder(s) seem to be working

I took a screen shot of the finder hierarchy of the effect I created, then deleted that seems to be causing the problems

I recently deleted a Motion effect in the FCPX installed effects menu,

Exactly how did you do this? Usually effects are deleted by going into your Home folder: Movies/Motion Templates/Effects folder, finding the category folder it is in, and deleting the effect's folder. I'm not aware of any way to delete effects from the "FCPX installed effects menu"...

Fox already told you how to handle a partially deleted effect; but that should not affect the creation of other effects, unless perhaps if you deleted too much.

Please tell us exactly what happens when you try to save an effect in Motion. If there are any error messages, post a screenshot.

If you can save but don't see the effect in FCP, then in Motion, command-click the window title and show us the exact path of the effect.

Also, in Finder, go to the Movies folder, open Motion Templates folder, and post a screenshot.

I am suspecting that you may have deleted the whole Effects folder...
