I was trying to free space before upgrading to Big Sur from Monterey in erased, the OS thinking that it would free up space I know I know things you do when distracted by a beautiful woman. How do I fix this?

Re-installing macOS (which by design, does not disturb your user files and added Applications) is very straightforward.
The Operating System files will end up on a separate, crypto-locked System image that is not writeable using ordinary means. ANY changes to that volume, from ANY cause, are quickly identified and you are altered.
if you do not have a working MacOS, you will need to work from Recovery. if your Apple-ID is intact, you should be offered the last-running version:

Depending what you did, you may need to perform a DFU firmware Restore which resets the security enclave chip & system firmware, but more importantly for you it also resets the internal SSD & pushes a clean version of macOS onto the internal SSD. This option may be required if you cannot boot into the Startup Options screen to access Recovery Mode.
