Apple account recovery never working

It had been a stressful month since I trying to do the account recovery process for my grandmother apple id account since she forgot her password. I've called the Apple Support on multiple occasions and had tried repeat the same process over and over again for account recovery such as

  • start the recovery process on my grandmother account through iforgot website
  • start recovery process on my phone Apple Support app by helping someone else which is my grandmother account
  • Doing the same process again where I completely close my grandmother device which is the only device associated with my grandmother apple id account, and she can't use her phone for week

After did all that, there's never a call or text message sending on my number at all. My last straw is to call them again and explained that I've did all the steps necessary. They're really keen on trying to help, but there's no way we could come up with an answer on why it's not working and their suggestion is just for me to do the account recovery one more time. Which I knew that it wouldn't works as I've been trying it for so long with different method and scenario.

So, their final suggestions is for me to ask for activation lock request which I've to send through the receipt to prove my ownership of the phone which I bought several years ago and I probably lost it already. Additionally, doing so will lost my grandmother apple id forever which I really don't wanna go down that way.

Will there be any other way to gain my grandmother apple id account back? I'm confused on why this process is automatically cancel when I'm doing all the step right. Anyone that faced the same problem with account recovery?

At the end of the day I just want to reset password for my grandmother apple id account where I clearly had access to her gmail, phone number for recovery, my apple id that's prove that I'm on the same family as her. What else do they need to not get it cancel I don't understand.

If you don’t receive the text or call, once the period specified in the original email is over, you can still go directly to apple.com/recover. Follow the instructions to regain access to your Apple Account.

Also make sure after you started recovery to carefully follow How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support

  • If you started your account recovery in Settings, System Settings, or the Apple Support app, you can continue to use that specific device during the account recovery period.
  • Regardless of how you started the account recovery request, you should turn off all other devices that are currently signed in with your Apple Account until account recovery is complete. If your Apple Account is in use during your request, your account recovery will be cancelled automatically.
  • If you started your account recovery request with iforgot.apple.com through your device’s browser, you should avoid using that device during this period. If possible, turn that device off. Using that device might cancel account recovery.

Yes, as I've said in the post. I've done that multiple times already. And it ended up being cancelled every time (I called them every time it reach that specific date with no response and they always says it got cancelled). So, I redo apple.com/recover step multiple times already. And there's no hope.

They also told me to carefully follow How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support. Which I did all different combination of method already but all of them doesn't work included:

  • use iforgot on grandma device without turn off the phone
  • use iforgot on grandma device AND turn off the phone
  • use iforgot from my own device to recover my grandmother account without turn off the phone
  • use apple support app from my own device to recover my grandmother account without turn off the phone
  • use apple support app from my own device to recover my grandmother account AND turn off the phone

After six months? Abandon that Apple Account minimally, and seriously consider abandoning the iPhone, and probably switching to a feature phone or to a local cordless phone as appropriate.

Maybe migrate to Assistive Access, as an intermediate step.

That’s the path I ended up following for similar situations with folks that was having increasing difficulties with navigating complex devices, albeit also having waited far too long to simplify things.

Thats such a sad advice. I mean they made this recovery system for a reason and this is one of them so I really wish it could works as it intended.

You’ve been repeating similar cycles for half a year, with many tries, with multiple support calls, with obvious frustration, and unsuccessfully.

You’ve been told how it works, what to do and what not to do, and other requirements. All of which has abjectly failed.

And that associated iPhone or iPad or whatever has been problematic or unavailable throughout.

Probably also for somebody that might be having increasing issues using the gear, or might have diminishing interest in or use for or need of the gear. (We all change.) This all irrespective of the account loss, too.

Transition the gear to a new Apple Account if receipts are available, or get replacements appropriate for the user’s current and near future needs.

Spend your time with your loved one. Not with the frustration with this now-long-lost Apple Account.
