Is Apple Trade-In an absolute scam?
Hello, I was wondering what everyones experience has been with the Apple Trade In program. Did you get the original value you were offered online after it was received?

I've always received the amount I was offered on Apple trade ins. However, I go directly to the Apple Store. That's the only way they can look over your trade in to see if there is anything wrong with it - BEFORE you decide if you want to trade it in. Sometimes people like to think their used items are in better condition than they actually are, and when looked over they find things wrong.

Scammed. I purchased an iPad and was offered $115 for trade-in. Mailed in and got a reply about "white spots" on screen and offer changed to $0. Scam. Screen is perfectly fine.
Have it sent back to you. Usually you also get a photo of the white spots seen on the screen. You may consider it perfectly fine, but condition is entirely subjective. It you are looking for an on the spot trade-in value, then take it to the Apple Store where you don't have to worry about having the value downgraded after it has been evaluated. Those are the 2 trade-in options. I understand not everyone has an Apple Store near them, but that is the only way to have the device physically evaluated to get the exact trade-in value.
I had a similar experience. I had it returned to me and posted about it and included a photo of a perfect screen resolution, without streaks and a burnt in image that was listed as the reason the trade in value went from 120 to zero. From reading these posts, seems like you have to do this at the Apple store and not on line.
Update: I received my iPad back & thought it would probably a long shot, but took it to the Apple store. The guy that helped me was awesome, I got $80 of the $115 (time penalty), which was fine with me. He said he didn't know what the mail in trade-in people were thinking as he didn't see the "spots" either. As has been stated previously, better outcome going in-store...
⇡ What makes you believe that?

I traded my previous iPhone for the new model a few months ago and here’s how: ⇣
Good luck! 👋🏼😉
Whether you get the offered value MOSTLY depends on whether you were completely honest about condition.
They are processing a LOT of trade-ins, so of course there will be (what seems like) a lot of stories told about horrendous things that happened to isolated people. The actual percentage of troubled trade-ins appear to be quite small.
In store is definitely the way to go. The mail in process is the scam. They hope that you just accept their low-ball revised offer because you don't feel like taking the item back and having to sell privately.
As stated in the instructions, you are free to decline the reduced offer, and they will return your device to you at no charge. Then you can make other arrangements to sell the device yourself.
I have been trading in products with Apple for years now as I use the value in my old/used models towards the price of newer devices, never had an issue always been given the value they have promised and been a smooth transaction every time.
Cheers, Lofty.

nobody likes surprises. if you know a way to better determine this, like running that white spots test as you put it in the box, you could suggest that here:
True but the trick is already complete if you took that offer into consideration when making your purchase. That trade in quote is looked at as "money off" but then after your purchase its zero dollars. Surprise! LOLZ.
I have one more thing to suggest: ⇣
Good luck! 👋🏼😉
