Photos library shows incorrect count on my Mac mini

Hello,

Apple's Photos on MacOs: Library shows xxx Photos, 2 Videos and yet there aren't any videos.

Media Types show no videos.

The videos are't animated, burst or live: there are more than

I made a smart album to show the videos.

Any clue what/where are those videos ?

Do you also have Live Photos in your library?

It is a bit confusing, but videos created from Live Photos by adding a Life effect are not shown as "Media Kind Video" but as shown as Media kind: Animated.

In my Library I am having

  • a total of 838 videos shown below the Library.
  • And Media Kind: Video is showing 724 videos
  • Media Kind: Animated is showing 1924 photos and 114 Videos.

That explains the total of 838 videos

Léonie,

Thanks to your advice, I could find the 2 videos.

However, I still fail to understand why the smart album return 0 when searching for videos.

If I change the smart album to "animated", I get the same as Library Info:

There are 7 Gigs and 2 MOVs ( which are videos).

So the question is: why does Photo classify those 2 MOV files as animated and doesn't find them as videos ( in smart albums), but still displays them as videos in Library Info ?

Not that it's a big deal. Just a question of coherence and consistency.

P.s.: now looking further those 2 MOV files.

They were shot with an iPhone 8 back in 2021. (Yeah I know I love using old hardware :-D )

It says HEVC.

Maybe it's a live shot that the iPhone has stored as a MOV and Photos has recognised the MOV and therefore as animated (but not as Live Photos). Or maybe Photos considers 2-second shots as animated because it's short.

Do you happen to know the rule by any chance ?

I could not find any documentation on this. It is a recent change.

On my Mac with macOS 15 Sequoia the videos I have taken as videos are shown in the Smart album "Photo is video", but not the videos that have been created from Live Photos. They are still shown as Live Photo, perhaps because they can be reverted to Live Photos. But they are for all purposes videos. When I share them in Mail or insert them into a Pages document, they are shared as videos.
