iPhones with Adaptive True Tone flash have a grid of multiple flash LEDs and can turn them on and off individually. The beam width control is simply a manual control for taking advantage of this hardware.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus do not have Adaptive True Tone flash hardware and so do not support the beam width control.

Why doesn't the link from Apple make any mention that a Pro Model is required to adjust the flashlight width?

The first part of that article covers all iPhones.

The "Change the size of your flashlight beam with Dynamic Island in iOS 18" section has a note that says "The Dynamic Island is available on iPhone 14 Pro and later Pro models." By implication, it's not available on regular ("plain" and Plus) models.

It does seem a bit of a tease to have the description of the feature, and a screenshot showing the user interface controls, up front … only to have a following line indicate that you might not have it!

Yes, more than a bit of a tease, but I see what you're saying.......
